How to play

1. Read the poster, not the databaseEach round shows a hand-ranked film from the atlas. Titles are in English. The flag is what you have to know.
2. Native vs souvenirNative films ask “Which country is this film from?” Souvenir films ask “Which country is this film about?” Those are different questions on purpose.
3. 30 seconds on the clockBorder control does not wait. Time out and the question is lost. Bookmark a film to watch later without pausing the clock.
4. 10 countries, shuffledQuestions and flags are randomized every game. No two rounds are the same map.

For international cinephiles

Is this just Letterboxd’s country map as a quiz?

No. Films Around the World places films by verified native cinema versus outsider portrayals. A story shot in a country is not automatically from that country.

What happens if I get it wrong?

The correct flag is revealed, then the next poster. Your score is how many you named in time. Nothing is written to an account — the best score stays on this device.

Can I watch the film afterwards?

Bookmark it for later, open the country guide, or stamp it in the 196 country challenge if you have already seen it.

Why flags instead of country names?

Because the atlas is a passport. Flags are the stamp. Names appear on the flag label so the round stays fair if a flag is unfamiliar.
